The holidays are a familiar time of warmth and togetherness. Families and friends gather to laugh, love and connect before kindling fires and cinnamon-sugared treats. To celebrate the spirited season, Vermont’s picturesque Lake Champlain region is home to a number of festive attractions and events.

Whether a local candy cane striped celebrator, in the neighborhood visiting family, or inspired by the made-for-TV movie Christmas in Vermont,  you are never shorthanded holiday happenings in the Lake Champlain region. Explore all the reasons we love to call our Green Mountain bordered oasis home this holiday season.

1. Take a Horse-Drawn Sleigh Ride

Get up close and personal with Santa’s antlered–and occasionally red-nosed helpers at ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain on December 28.  Learn more about why these stoic creatures are drawn to colder climates, and pet their warm coats. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even see one take flight.

Put on your pajamas and head to the North Pole on the Polar Express.  Indulge in hot chocolate and cookies, read along to the Polar Express and listen as Santa and his elves ring the bells so you too can hear “the most beautiful sound [you] have ever heard.”

You don’t have to still be in the consumerism spirit to enjoy Church Street Marketplace this season. Instead go to check out the lights, listen to carolers and take part in their array of fun and family-friendly festivities.
