Once again, we will see Burlington transformed into a national tri-athlete destination this weekend. It’s no wonder that the USA Triathlon chose Burlington, Vermont as the two-year host of their flagship events: the Age Group and Sprint National Championships. Burlington has received high praise from Outside Magazine and Men’s Health Magazine for its culture of health and outdoor recreation. Vermont also received the top honors as the healthiest state in the “America’s Health Rankings ® 2011 edition”. We certainly have the credentials to host a world class event.
The US National Championship for the Age-Group Triathlon, locally sponsored by People’s United Bank, will take place this Saturday and Sunday, August 18-19 2012. Bringing approximately 5 million dollars in business and tax revenue to the area, visiting out-of-state athletes and their families will eat, shop, and stay. Not to be overlooked – local tri-athletes – will take part in the overall race and the area-based competition – the V-TRI – with separate results and awards for Vermont-based competitors. The Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce and Vermont Convention Bureau are sponsors of this event.
