Since 2001, the Vermont Council on World Affairs has established a proud tradition of welcoming distinguished diplomats, who come to Vermont to exchange views on issues of international importance. They speak at large public venues, as well as at smaller, more intimate meetings with time for personal interaction and discussion.
Joined by Consul General Michael Longergan, H.E. Michael Collins, Irish Ambassador to the United States, spent October 4-5 meeting with academic, business and political leaders around the region. The Ambassador spoke to the public and Champlain College community about his country’s recovery from its economic hardships shortly after arriving in Vermont on October 4, and discussed the benefits of investing in his country the following day over breakfast at the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce: “Ireland is the single best European country to invest in because of its political stability, skills, educational structure and low tax rate.”
October 16-17, the VCWA welcomed H.E. François Delattre, French Ambasssador to the United States. Hosted by Honorary French Consul to Vermont, Mr. Ernie Pomerleau, over 175 guests joined us for our 60th Anniversary Bash and Champagne Reception!
Before departing, Ambassador Delattre and Consul General Fabien Fieschi joined Senator and Marcelle Leahy, Mayor Weinberger, Leadership Champlain Alumni, LCRCC, VCWA and Alliance Française board members for breakfast and then walked up to City Hall for ceremonial exchanges.
As always, the VCWA would like to extend a gracious thanks to all who assisted with the ambassadors’ visits. To the ambassadors themselves, thank you for letting us share our beautiful state with you!
