Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce
Members of the Leadership Champlain Class of 2012 will gain insight into our community’s issues in a unique way: through active learning, team-based learning, networking and exposure to community leaders. The Leadership Champlain program incorporates all this into eight day-long seminars, a two-day overnight retreat and two team projects over the course of the September through June program year.
Each monthly session is held at a different location, chosen for its connection to the session’s topic. Participants will debate the law with Vermont’s Attorney General and tour the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility with the Vermont Commissioner of Corrections; they will learn about Government and Politics from legislators at the Vermont State House; they will experience how the media works from inside the newsroom; they will see first-hand the human service needs in our community and how they’re being met; and they will discuss the critical issue of health care with our state’s leading providers. This unique program will offer participants a first-hand look inside some of the many institutions that make up our community.
In the Fall, participants will work with a team of classmates, studying leadership theory and interviewing a prominent community leader about his or her leadership style. In the Spring, they will engage in community leadership first-hand through a team project. For this project, they will work with a different group of classmates, first defining and choosing their project, then implementing it on behalf of a community non-profit organization
