. Please Note --> This is a Past Event!! .

Date: 8/17/2012
Time: 6:30 PM

Event Description:
Take A Seat in the Islands! Welcome to the second annual Take a Seat in the Islands, a community art project featuring hand-crafted benches painted by local artists! Take a Seat in the Islands, presented by the Lake Champlain Islands Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Lake Champlain Transportation, will transport you to a world of flora, fauna, boats and sunsets, all appearing on ample benches of maple and poplar. Benches will be on display.in venues throughout the Champlain Islands from mid-June until mid-August. Maps showing the location of the benches can be found at local stores, or downloaded from www.champlainislands.com after June 15. The Islands’ talented artists have been hard at work painting 16 benches this spring, in addition to the students in Islands schools. Five small benches, one at each elementary school, will be painted by the students, and also on display throughout the summer. The Grand Isle Historical Society sponsored the bench at Grand Isle School, and will house it in the Old Schoolhouse throughout the summer, a fitting location where old will meet new. There will be benches in every town, from the orchards in South Hero to the far reaches of Isle La Motte, and everywhere in between. On Friday, August 17th, all the benches will be gathered at the North Hero Community Hall for a live auction and cocktail event. Auctioneer George Goldring will go through their paces, and 21 people will go home with a beautiful work of art, practical, too! Tickets to the event are free. Sponsors of the individual benches are A&B Beverage; Allenholm Farm; Bauer, Gravel, Farnham, Nuovo & Parker; Diane David and Ransom Bay Inn; Grand Isle Art Works; Hackett’s Orchard; Harborside Harvest Market; Hero’s Welcome General Store; Island Acres Farm, Kinney Insurance Agency; Merchants Bank; North Hero House; Northwest Medical Center; Preservation Trust of Vermont; Prompt Inc. and Shore Acres Inn & Restaurant. The children’s benches are sponsored by Camp Abnaki, Grand Isle Historical Society, Island Physical Therapy, Northwest Regional Planning Commission and Prompt Inc. The artists are Paula Bradley, Heidi Chamberlain, Kris Cairelli, Diane David, Linda Effel, Maurie Harrington, Rachel Laundon, Denise Limoge, Marie Limoge, Hannah Maynard, Karen McCloud, Suzanne Sauve, Amanda Schirmer, Terry Sheets, Kay Webb and Brian Welsh.
