August in Burlington: Events Galore

-Summer is one of the best seasons to visit Vermont’s Queen City, as Burlington is alive with festivals and outdoor concerts. Whether you’re visiting for just the day or a whole week, there is plenty to explore!

Live music, outdoor dining and boutique shopping can be found on Church Street Marketplace, downtown’s pedestrian walkway. On the Waterfront, the bustling Burlington Bike Path provides easy access on foot or bike to parks and beaches and the Lake Champlain Sailing Center offers kayak, stand up paddleboard and sailboat rentals in the afternoons. Catch a game at Centennial Field where Burlington’s baseball team, the Lake Monsters, fight it out with other regional teams.

For those that want to visit like a local, a number of après-work events happen throughout the week.  Thursdays in town host a variety of events including Summervale, a weekly food and music festival at Burlington’s community garden center, and Concerts in Battery Park, a free concert series featuring local and regional groups.

Every Thursday at Snow Farm Vineyard, in the Lake Champlain Islands, serves up their Vermont wines, along with everything from pizza to root beer floats at their free weekly concert series.

Fridays bring the South End Truck Stop at ArtsRiot, which hosts a number of food trucks and other vendors with everything from fried chicken to Malaysian vegan noodles. With local beer and cider as well live music, this is a great weekly event loved by locals and visitors alike! The weekends fill up quickly with special events. Sunday, August 2, Vermont Fresh Network will hold their annual Forum at Shelburne Farms. The area’s best restaurants come to showcase their culinary chops and attendees vote on their favorite dishes. The Lake Champlain Maritime Festival kicks off the next week, featuring live concerts and performances on the Waterfront: Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion entertains Thursday, August 6 and the Indie bands Twiddle and Moe will be performing over the weekend.

Rounding out the month, in its second year, Bolton Valley is hosting a local beer festival, Hop Jam, August 22.
