The Quad is Here!
Vermont gears up for celebrations in the Champlain
Valley! 2009 will mark the 400th anniversary of when French
explorer Samuel de Champlain traveled by canoe up the Richelieu
River and came upon
a lake spanning 120 miles in length and 12 miles in width.
The lake, called “Bitawbagok” by its early Abenaki
inhabitants, was renamed by Samuel de Champlain when he visited
the region in July 1609. Vermont is commemorating this historic
event in 2009 with festivals, pageants, exhibits, performances
and much more.
Quad-related events of all shapes and sizes
began during summer 2008 and will continue throughout this
year. Look for theatrical performances, heritage festivals,
art & craft shows, competitions, symposiums, films, musical
tributes and so much more.

Welcome to Burlington,
Vermont, a city that has earned national acclaim for being The
Number One Dream Town in America (Outside Magazine). The Burlington
region is more than one expects; it’s creative, hip and
quirky, and promises abundant discovery and rewards your exploration.
Within the past several years, many accolades
have been bestowed upon Burlington. We’re the Best Walking
City, the Best City for Families, Best Small City for the Arts,
Healthiest City, and Greenest City. The Arts & Entertainment
Network (A&E) summed it all up by naming Burlington Number
One on its list of “Top Ten Cities That Have It All.”
You just have to see it to believe it.

To have it all, you’ve
got to have a lot, and Burlington does. More than a quarter
of the state’s population. Most of the state’s largest
employers. Four colleges and universities. One of the nation’s
lowest crime rates and highest air-quality ratings. More than
160 retail stores, 100 restaurants, and every kind of lodging
from basic campground to four-star luxury. World-famous skiing
and snowboarding in winter. Sailing, fishing, boating, windsurfing,
diving, and much more in summer, thanks to being on the shores
of Lake Champlain.
Perhaps most of all, though, Burlington is famed
for its easygoing, friendly sophistication. If you want world-class
art, entertainment, dining, and activities, they’re here.
If you want the quiet charm and unique warmth that have made
Vermont legendary, they’re here too. In fact, Burlington
really does have it all.
