VQEI Advisory Board

The work of the VQEI will be informed by an esteemed Advisory Board who represent various business sectors and regions in Vermont. Serving on the board are:

Jay Cummings is 7th generation Vermonter born and raised in St. Albans with a deep appreciation for the Vermont environment and business sectors. Jay graduated from Champlain College with a degree in Computer Programming. Soon afterwards, Jay founded JC Image and the Vermont Clothing Company whose customers span USA, Canada and the Caribbean. The firm had 2 divisions that primarily focused on the resort industry and the corporate sector, which has given Jay intimate knowledge of both segments of local business. Soon after selling his companies, Jay joined People's Trust Bank business development division to focus in the commercial market where he continues to serve. Jay also served as the President of the Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Wayne Granquist has a long career in business - from finance and sales to politics and economic development.  A Vermont resident since 1983, Mr. Granguist has been involved with the sale of Stratton and Bromley Mountain resort, chaired Commissions on Economic Development for Governors Kunin and Dean, and served as Senior Economic Adviser to the Howard Dean Presidential Campaign in 2003. He is a founding partner of Green Mountain Capital LLP, a small business investment company, and joined Manchester Capital Management LLC, an investment adviser in Manchester, VT, as a general partner and managing director until his retirement in 2000. Additionally, Mr. Granquist serves on several non-profit boards.

Marie-Josée Legault is a Partner and Strategic Planning Director at Origin Design + Communications, a strategic marketing, creative and communications firm specializing in mountain sports and resort tourism, with offices in both Whistler and Montreal. As one of the mountain sport industry’s leading marketing strategists, M-J Legault is the driving force behind several outdoor and mountain tourism campaigns. She holds a degree in Marketing from Concordia University and has worked in ad agencies based in British Columbia, Colorado and Vermont, never straying far from the mountains that inspire her. Legault has worked with brands such as Jay Peak Resort, Salomon, The North Face, Rocky Mountain Bicycles and Taos Ski Valley, to name a few. When she’s not snowboarding with her son at Jay Peak, you can find her riding her Triumph Thruxton on a twisty road somewhere.

David Marvin is the owner, founder and president of Butternut Mountain Farms and has been deeply involved in the science, art and practice of maple sugaring and the Vermont Maple Industry since the 1940's. His company is one of the largest maple processors and distributes in the United States. Butternut Mountain Farms works with over of 350 producers to deliver quality, non-GMO products.

Birgit Matthiesen has a strong and unique perspective of the issues facing Canadian and American cross-border supply chains. Birgit's specialties reflect a career building a network of cross-border interests. She has worked within the Canadian Government, has represented Canadian business interests to American officials and members of Congress, and has built a solid record of advocacy in the United States for Canadian companies and their American business partners.

Bill Stenger has served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Jay Peak, Inc. since July 2008. Prior to that, he served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Jay Peak Ski and Summer Resort. He was appointed by the Governor of the State of Vermont to serve on the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors and served as a Member of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development Advisory Council.
