It happens every week, but it never gets less exciting: the weekend has arrived! It’s going to be a good one, so leave work behind and slip into your weekend wardrobe. Get the skinny on how to maximize your fun in those sweet, short 48 hours:




Truck Stop

Street-food lovers unite! Mingle with the locals over luscious libations and grab some grub at one — or three — of the many food trucks at ArtsRiot this Friday and get an authentic Vermont experience. The food is delectable, the art is captivating, and the drinks are cold! Did we mention there is FREE live music? Bring the family — and your appetite. Truck Stop is kid- and dog-friendly, and a foodie favorite! 


Ben & Jerry’s Free Outdoor Movie Festival

Movies and ice cream – what could be better? Round up the family, grab some chairs, and head to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory for a free movie at dusk! Settle in with a cone of Phish Food (or whatever B&J’s flavor you fancy) and enjoy the hilarious story of that forgetful Blue Tang’s adventures in Disney’s Finding Dory. Tours will be running right up until the movie begins, so get there a little early and find out how the most delicious ice cream in Vermont – possibly the world – gets made.




Viking Baby’s Birthday Bash

Get ready for a baby’s birthday party like no other – Colchester’s Mead Hall is celebrating their resident Viking Baby’s first year around the sun! There will be delightful cocktail specials, craft ginger beer, and a special Viking Baby birthday feast! Come with the whole family and play lawn games, dance to live music, and cozy up next to a bonfire in the Mead Garden. It’ll be a celebration fit for a Viking!…baby.


Wall to Canvas Live Art Competition

Vermont: the land of craft beer, food trucks, and an art scene that would make Andy Warhol swoon. When an opportunity arises to enjoy all of these things at once, make like a local and do not miss it! Magic Hat Brewery‘s 8th annual Wall to Canvas features 12 “street-style” artists competing in a live art competition as attendees spectate and mingle over refreshing Magic Hat beer and delicious tacos from Taco Truck All Stars. This isn’t your grandmother’s creative process – artists will be painting, spraying, pasting and drawing their way to victory.

Start your Sunday balancing your mind and body and practicing a meditative yoga session on the top block of Church Street Marketplace. Grab your mat, set your intention, and breathe into your poses as Church Street rises to greet the day. The class is free (donations are encouraged) and led by certified yoga instructors. All proceeds will go to HOPE Works, a local nonprofit that provides 24/7 support to those whose lives have been affected by sexual violence. Namasté!


Who Walks These Woods?

Explore the vast landscape of the Birds of Vermont Museum in beautiful Huntington and learn about the diverse wildlife that lives and plays just outside their door. Walk with expert tracker and longtime UVM tracking instructor Mike Kessler as he tracks the critters that share the space with the museum. Learn about the ancient practice of tracking, how it was used in the past and how it’s used today. Bring the whole family (ages 7+ recommended) and spend the afternoon learning about our many unseen neighbors.




KidSafe Collaborative Community Yard Sale

KidSafe Collaborative will host its 14th annual Community Yard Sale this weekend! Whether you like to hunt for treasure, need to do some serious shopping, or are just curious about what an 81,000 square-foot yard sale looks like, come down to the Champlain Valley Exposition and check out some gently used goods for aggressively low prices! Proceeds from the Yard Sale will benefit the KidSafe Collaborative, a partnership of over 30 agencies, organizations and individuals working together to prevent and address child abuse and neglect in our community. Take home great stuff, spend minimal cash, and support a great cause – it’s a win-win!
