The University of Vermont, Grossman School of Business welcomes Steve Phelps, ’85, President of NASCAR to give our virtual, annual Hoffman Family Business Lecture followed by a Q&A session moderated by UVM Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Dr. Wanda Heading-Grant. Mr. Phelps will be sharing lessons learned from a seminal season at NASCAR. The critical role of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and managing through the pandemic.
Promoted to President in September 2018, Phelps became just the fifth person to hold the position in NASCAR history. Under Phelps’ leadership, the sanctioning body has refocused its priorities to ensure the world’s best racing experience is delivered to NASCAR fans on a weekly basis at track, at home or on the go. Phelps has led major organizational change by focusing on racial justice and DEI in a traditional organization. Phelps joined NASCAR as Vice President of Corporate Marketing in July 2005. During his time at NASCAR, Phelps has won Adweek’s prestigious Sports Marketing Executive of the Year and was named its Brand Genius Award winner in the “sports” category.
