Staff Spotlight: Tom Carton, Sales Manager, Vermont Convention Bureau

Tom Carton was born and raised in Essex Junction, Vermont, instilling in him a love for the outdoors, mountains, and the sport of basketball. His success at Roger Williams University Gabelli School of Business led him to pursue a degree in finance and sustainability. Tom maintains an extensive background in the hospitality industry and is currently working as a Sales Manager with the Vermont Convention Bureau. Prior to being at the VCB, Tom worked at Hotel Viking in Newport, RI as he was finishing his degree at Roger Williams University.

What three traits define you?
Personable, outgoing, honest.

What is your personal philosophy?
Eventually all things merge to one, and a river runs through it.

What is one thing you could not live without?
Solitude.

What is the one thing you cannot resist?
Hill Farmstead Edward.

What is your greatest fear?
Losing loved ones.

Where is your favorite place to be?
In the mountains.

What is your favorite thing to do?
Stand in a river.

Where is the best place you have traveled to and why?
Grand Lake Stream; Gin-Clear waters and beautiful fish.

What is the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
No weird jobs but a lot of weird experiences.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?
Digital camera.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Mailman.

How do you define success?
Happiness.

What is the best book you have ever read?
Fishing for Fun and to Wash Your Soul by Herbert Hoover.
