Staff Spotlight: Mary Anne Sheahan

Mary Anne Sheahan, Director of Workforce Development

Mary Anne is the Executive Director of Leadership Champlain, Vermont’s professional development leadership program; and also directs Workforce Education and Development, promoting and retaining workforce talent in Vermont. Mary Anne is a Project Management Professional and has a Master’s degree in Business Administration. A UVM legacy, graduate, parent, and fan, she lives in Shelburne with her husband and three teen-age children.

What three traits define you?

Collaborative, Positive, Interested.

What is your personal philosophy?

Treat everyone with the same respect regardless of position in the world – the way I want to be treated.

What is one thing you could not live without?

My three kids – they keep it real.

What is one thing you cannot resist?

I never met a cheese I did not like

What is your greatest fear?

That I can’t support my family on my own.

Where is your favorite place to be?

Lake St. Catherine, Poultney, VT

What is your favorite thing to do?

Spend time at the lake.

Where is the best place you have traveled to and why?

Ireland – with my 13 year old daughter; visited the country by car, stayed in a castle, we fit in there.

What is the weirdest job you have ever had?

Sold season tickets for the Washington Wizards NBA team.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

Smart phone technology.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Secretary of Commerce.

How do you define success?

Progress toward strategic goals/letting non-strategic projects go.

What is the best book you have ever read?

Poisonwood Bible.

I am skilled and educated…surprise! I was Vice President at Middlebury Interactive Languages (overseeing more than 200 remote, part-time staff).
