May 10, 2018 marked the thirteenth annual Taste of Vermont, an event introduced by Senator Patrick Leahy to showcase Vermont’s finest products on Capitol Hill. The Russell Senate Building was filled with all of our favorite things here in Vermont: Beer, cheese, wine, maple syrup, chocolate, special cocktails, and many special guests.
Vermont can credit its distinction as a culinary destination to the people that inhabit this beautiful state and work to create products that are not simply satisfactory, but exceptional. The State’s top-flight chefs have paved their own culinary path as they pair their agricultural resources with their passion as farmers and foragers to create these ‘farm to table’ delicacies. As home to the most cheese makers and breweries per capita in the nation, you will find culinary artisans that are committed to sustainably sourcing local ingredients as well sharing a passion that transforms these meals into experiences for their guests. Through tasting the efforts of these chefs, you will quickly learn that in this state, you are never far from award winning cuisine served with a heaping pile of Vermont pride and a side of the infamous Vermont hospitality.
Every year, Senator Patrick Leahy hosts these culinary artisans on Capitol Hill to demonstrate their remarkable products in front of the Senators’ colleagues, special guests, staff, vendors, and other industry guests. This year’s event was well attended, with special guests including Bernie Sanders, Peter Welch, and their colleagues from the senate.
Vermont vendors lined the room early Thursday afternoon, as they prepared to be swarmed by Capital Hill’s select guests. Some of these vendors included; Citizen Cider, The Alchemist Brewery, Hotel Vermont, The Hilton Burlington, Dakin Farms, Lawson’s Finest Liquids, Shelburne Vineyards, as well as a number of other great Vermont producers. The event was well attended, and again, Vermont will be on the minds of hundreds of people throughout the Capital District for another year until the fourteenth annual Taste of Vermont.
