The Green New Deal: Economic Implications on US-Germany Relations

The Vermont Council on World Affairs will be hosting Dr. Claudia Kemfert in Burlington this September 4th at ECHO where she will give a lecture on the nexus of economics, energy, and the environment – with a focus on the economic cost of climate change, future energy security, and the economic opportunities presented by an intelligent energy change. Dr. Kemfert is an economics expert in the fields of energy research and climate protection, and has been awarded multiple times for her research work.

The lecture will run from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm followed by a wine and cheese reception until 8:30 pm.

Dr. Claudia Kemfert, head of the Department of Energy, Transport and Environment at the German Institute for Economic Research, will be leading a discussion on environmental protection and the changing relationship between the US and Germany under the Green New Deal. She has published multiple books on climate change and energy usage and her work is often seen in high-level scholarly journals. In 2016, Claudia Kemfert was appointed to the German Council of Environmental Experts at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. She was the adviser to EU President José Manuel Barroso and serves on boards of various research institutions as well as federal and state ministries as well as the EU Commission. She has been a member of the Club of Rome since 2011.
